Dr. John Carl Hoefs
"Dr. Hoefs facing charges of seven felony counts of sexual battery"
Dr. John Carl Hoefs, a hepatologist in Irvine, CA has been charged with seven felony counts of sexual battery. The assaults occurred during medical visits at his office in Irvine, affiliated with Hoag Hospital. He is accused of groping the breasts of one patient with a liver condition during five different appointments starting in 2020. Victims of misconduct claim that Hoefs pulled down their gown and exposed her chest when she tried to cover herself with it. He was also accused of groping another patient's breasts during an exam in November 2016 and another visit in October 2017. Hoefs was arrested and posted a $500,000 bond, but is scheduled to be arraigned on June 13. His privileges with Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian Medical Center, UCI Medical Center, and the Liver Specialty Center in Irvine were suspended immediately upon his arrest on these allegations.
